She was friends with a then young Al Gore, and had fond memories of him and his father growing up. She loved to travel and lived in several states as a young woman. It was nothing for her to pack a bag and be on the road from Georgia to Tennessee, Illinois, South Carolina to Michigan. She was an outspoken activist and walked in marches during the Civil Rights Movement. Willie Mae was a philanthropist and entrepreneur, she promoted club openings like a Touch of Class in South Carolina and Antique Shops here in Tennessee, while being involved in local government. Willie Mae was employed by Mrs. Conrad of Nashville, Tennessee as a personal assistant.
Willie Mae met Robert Cecil Jordan. They were united in holy matrimony in 2003 Robert predeceased her in 2006.
Willie was always willing to help her family and friends in any situation, she was truly a friend indeed. She was an outstanding mother who supported her son and daughter. Her generosity was unmatched. Willie Mae was very supportive to all of her family, especially her grandchildren. When her granddaughter was involved in a serious accident as a toddler, she put a halt to everything so that she could be there morning, noon and night for months, until she was well, enough to come home. She was an understanding and caring woman who never looked down on others and did her best to make sure she left you smiling. Willie Mae was also a realist who wasn’t afraid to tell you what she thought, and made sure her opinion was heard.
She passed these traits on to her children and grandchildren who in her declining years took care and nurtured her until her passing. She was an amazing woman who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
