William Howard Posey

December 12, 1939 — April 28, 2024

William H. Posey, a very mild mannered man, soft spoken by nature, with a presence that commanded respect, entered the gates of heaven on April 28th 2024 in Nashville TN.

William was born on December 12th 1939, in Mississippi, to the late Constance Inez Posey and Fletcher Posey.  William spent his formative years in the state of Mississippi where he was educated in the Scott county school system. Later he would attend Piney Woods Training School, the flagship of the four remaining historically African American boarding schools in the US.  In 1958 William would leave the state of Mississippi to attend Tennessee A & I University which is currently known as Tennessee State University. There he would graduate with a Bachelor's of Science and Masters Plus in Industrial Education Arts. This is where William found the love of his life, Miss Susie Jenkins. After finding the love of his life, Posey (as he was affectionately called) would be drafted into the Armed Services. As a member of the Air Force he bravely served his country by aiding his unit during the Vietnam War.

Mr. William Posey and Miss Susie Jenkins embarked on their journey of holy matrimony on December 12, 1961 his birthday the best birthday gift ever. A union that epitomized the essence of martial unity, enduring for over six decades. The Posey household was graced with the arrival of their daughter, Miss Martha Marie Posey, in 1963. Throughout their years together, Mr. Posey demonstrated unwavering devotion to his family, rarely seen without Mrs. Posey by his side. He exemplified the qualities of a loving husband and father, extending his care and guidance not only to his immediate family but also to his church community and beyond, serving as a mentor and father figure to all who knew him.

William Posey's dedication extended beyond his family life; he was known as a diligent worker, a pillar of support, and a beacon of knowledge at Springfield High School. In his later years, he experienced a spiritual reawakening, rededicating himself to his faith and becoming a faithful member of Saint Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church until his passing. Within the church, he served tirelessly as Steward & Trustee ProTem, displaying his strong work ethic by constantly improving the church's infrastructure. Despite facing health challenges, he remained committed to overseeing "Posey Realtors," his agency dedicated to addressing the affordable housing crisis in Nashville, thereby leaving a lasting impact on the community at large which he cherished.

William H. Posey a true icon of his generation, he was preceded in death by his parents, Constance Inez Posey and Fletcher Posey, his sister, Barbara Jean Posey-Rossom, brother in-law James Jenkins Sr., and nephew in-law Michael Craig.
