It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Gentry Davis Jr. a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He departed this earthly life on January 22, 2025 at the age of 79 at Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Born on February 1, 1945 at Meharry Hospital to parents William Gentry Davis Sr. and Jeanette Thacker Davis. He attended Pearl Cohn High School. “Junior” as many would call him, lived a full and joyous life, rooted in his unwavering Christian faith and his love for his family and friends. William was a supportive husband to the late Mary Ann Davis, with whom he shared 50 plus years of love, laughter, and companionship. Together, they raised four children. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather and their lives were brightened by his wisdom, warmth, and boundless love.
William was known for his laid back demeanor and no nonsense attitude. He served in the Korean War and was a part of the Army at Fort Polk in Louisiana (now called Fort Johnson). For those that knew him know that he loved to bowl. His bowling league was named the “Pinsmokers”. He worked as a butcher at Oldham Pride Sausage now called, Tennessee Pride for over 20+ years. He was given the nick name, “Bone No” because he could skin a hog like no other. He loved cars and motorcycles and he made sure to keep them shining no matter the weather. His love of dancing was also well-known; there was rarely a gathering where he didn’t lead the way on the dance floor, bringing energy and joy to all who shared in his infectious enthusiasm. Towards the end of his life he transitioned to a higher level of care and lived at Good Samaritan Health and Rehab in Antioch, TN. He met friends and established good relationships with his nurses and neighbors.
One thing that was certain is that he loved the Lord and would often read and share bible stories with his grandchildren. He particularly made them aware of the book of Revelations and assured them that this earthy life was not the end. He loved his church; Alameda Christian Church and was so proud to be a member. A strong-willed, but loving man, William will be remembered for his sense of humor. His legacy of love and faith will live on in his family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
