Wanda Jean Hall was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, and grew up attending First Missionary Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ at an early age. She was educated in the Montgomery County school system and graduated from Clarksville High in 1973. She earned a Bachelor's in Psychology with a minor in Paralegal Studies from the University of Maryland, sparking her love for research.
Wanda was first married to Robert Porter, with whom she had three children: Nicole, Tomeka, and Robert Jr. She later remarried Ernest Crowder Jr. in 1985, and they had two children, Amber and Ashley. She was married to Ernest until his passing in 2006.
Before moving back home, Wanda spent a large portion of her life in Nashville, TN where she worked for Comdata Corporation dedicating 35+ years before retiring in 2016. While in Nashville, she was a member of Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary and led initiatives to start the Women's Ministry as well as the Youth Dance and Drama Ministry called One Accord. Wanda had a passion for thrifting, history politics, and above all- ministering the word of God. After her retirement, she moved back home to Clarksville, TN to be closer to family where she made Christ the Healer her church home. Wanda also pastored Free Indeed Ministries at South Central Village where she not only held services and preached the gospel but also actively ministered to the entire Clarksville community. Her outreach work embodied her deep commitment to serving others and spreading God’s love. Wanda had even begun spreading the word of God through podcasting. She was also an active member of the NAACP Clarksville chapter and started a local branch of the Red Hatters organization.
Wanda was greeted in Heaven by her father and mother, Myles Jr. and Annie Love Hall, her brother Melvin Hall, her daughter Tomeka Ellington, and her husband Ernest Crowder Jr.
Wanda leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Nicole (Shawn) Dowlen, Amber (Jerald) Harding, and Ashley (Garland) Crowder; son, Robert (Ericka) Porter Jr; grandsons, Shawn (Jamie) Dowlen Jr, DaJuan (Michelle) Dowlen, Brevon Johnson, LaMarr & Joseph Harding, Gavin Smith, Robert Porter III, Bryson Ellington, Acari & Elijah Crowder; granddaughter, Brionna Johnson, Ahjanae Dowlen, Raven Porter and Bailey Harding; Great-granddaughters Nashaya, Ava, Amaya, Alaya, Mia, Soialla, Alani and Naiari. Brothers Kenneth (Louis) Hall, Ricky (Denise) Hall, Ronald Hall. She is also survived by her brothers Kenneth Hall, Ricky Hall, and Ronald Hall and a host of Uncles, Aunts, family and loved ones including neighbor and friend, Ebone Jenkins.
