Mother Virginia Lee Glenn was born October 13, 1940 to the late Dannis Covington and Velma Odella Payne Covington in Robertson County, Tennessee. She was the third of four children. Life’s span was exhausted, and God’s will was done February 15, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dannis and Velma Covington, husband, Elder Carlton M. Glenn Sr., son, Carlos R. Glenn, son-in- law, Howard Morgan and nephew, Charles M. Glenn Jr.
Mother Virginia Lee Glenn professed her hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Bransford High School in Springfield, Tennessee with the class of 1959.
After moving to Nashville, Virginia met and later married the love of her life, the Late Elder Carlton M. Glenn, Sr. on June 14, 1960. To this union, they were blessed to have five children.
In 1961, she united with Hamilton Tabernacle where her husband was a member, under the leadership of Elder W.E. Hamilton. While there, she sang in the choir.
In April of 1967, Virginia moved her membership to be with her husband as he established Glenn’s Mission. In May of 1967 the Mission became Glenn’s Tabernacle U.P.B. Church and was set up by Elder W.E. Hamilton. Because at the time of establishment, Elder Glenn had no Mothers, Virginia was appointed to be a Mother by Elder Hamilton until Elder Glenn’s mother came to be with him.
Mother Virginia Lee Glenn was a dedicated member, she didn’t just sit, she worked and served. She was later installed as a Mother by her husband in 1987 and served faithfully as a Mother and a Choir member. She loved to sing and was a very powerful and spiritual singer. Her voice and the power to which she always sang was a blessing to all that ever heard her. Mother Glenn led many songs such as, “Lord Don’t Move My Mountain”, “Drinking Tears for Water”, “Oh How Precious”, “The Holy Ghost”, “A Change” and many others. She was often asked to sing solos at other churches. She sang in the Big Harpeth Choir Union for many years until she joined the Mother’s Union in 1999 under the presidency of Mother Cornelia Esmon. Mother Glenn was truly a willing and dedicated worker for the Lord. In September of 2008 she was elected to become the President of the Mothers Union where she served faithfully until August of 2019, at which time she was made President Emeritus of the Big Harpeth Association Mother’s Union. After the death of her husband in 1998, she remained at Glenn Tabernacle until 2001. Mother Glenn later moved her membership to McNairy Hill United Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder John T. Gassaway. Mother Virginia Glenn served faithfully until her health began to fail.
Mother Virginia Lee Glenn was well reported for her good works. She brought up children, lodged strangers, washed the Saints feet and diligently followed every good work. She was also an amazing cook who shared her food with many. She was blessed to have a life such as hers, A Life Well Spent.
