Vannessa Sanders

November 19, 1962 — January 10, 2025

Mrs. Vannessa Sanders was born November 19, 1962, to Van Lee Sherrill and Dovie Mae Allen in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the youngest of seven children and was loved by many. She went by many names, such as Bertha, Pig, Miss Piggy, Nessa, Auntie, and Grandma, but most importantly, she was a wife and mother. Vannessa pursued her education in Metro Nashville Public Schools, last attending Martha O’Bryan. Vannessa gave her life to Christ at the age of 9 and was baptized at J. Percy Priest Lake on July 23, 1978, at the age of 15. Vannessa served many and held many roles in her lifetime. She was a devoted missionary at New People’s Deliverance Temple and a mother at Abundant Life Ministries in Murfreesboro under watch care.

Whenever Vanessa was not extending a hand to someone in need, she loved spending quality time with her family. Whether dominating her favorite game of Monopoly, watching movies, shopping for her grandchildren, teaching them card games, frying fish, or just going on a scenic car ride, she enjoyed sharing memorable moments with the people she cherished.

Vanessa also loved music, especially Keith Sweat. She would always burst into song and dance, a shoulder shake or twerk being her go-to moves. She was your local comedian! Vannessa was a heartfelt missionary anointed in her work. Talented in her spiritual craft, she enjoyed life to the fullest. Vanessa showed no discrimination and encouraged everyone to live their best life for the Lord.

Vannessa was preceded in death by her late Husband, Walter Lee Sanders, and her parents, Dovie Mae Allen and Private Van Lee Sherrill. Eldest granddaughter: Chanya Chantal Sherrill, brothers: John Muse, George Overton, and Paul “Smoke-Bomb” Sanders. Sister: Annie Brown, niece Latika Hatch, and Nephew Ronald Hatch.

Vannessa Sherrill-Sanders leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Annette Sherrill, Mauricesa Sherrill, Patricia (Ronald) Robertson, and Jasmine Dunlap. Grandchildren: Angel Lewis, Avonna Sherrill, Brenton Sherrill, Malachi Burch, Akeelah Burch, Destiny Sherrill, Aria Leggs, Ethan Kelley, Judayah Kelley, and great-grandson Bishop Sherrill. Siblings: Mary (Billy) Philips, Wilbert (Lorraine) Muse, Helen Alderson, Debra and her husband (Big Chris) Robinson, and Prince Page. Nieces: Sandra Muse, Regina Muse, Benita (Robert) Reynolds. Nephews: Rodney Muse, William (Pam) Muse, Chris (Kee) Campbell, Marcus Robinson, and Eric Davis. Her in-laws: Georgia (Ricardo) Lang, Beatrice (Arthur) Box, Katherine “Kat” Martin, Cora (Kevin) Walker, John “Moose” Sanders, and Milton Sanders. She leaves many more great nieces, nephews, friends, and family who will forever love and care for her.
