Richard D. Hancock, son of Richard and Eva Hancock, entered this life on Sunday January 17th, 1943, in Nashville TN.
He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and is a member or Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church.
Richard was educated in the Nashville public school system, graduated from Pearl High School-class of 1961, and attended Tennessee State University.
On Saturday November 23, 1963, he united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Edna Mai Drew. This union was blessed with three children, Venita, Richard Vincent, and Erich.
A devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend, Richard enjoyed serving his community through various organizations. He was a member of the Capital Hill Lodge #251, the Hella Temple 105, and a long-standing member of the Men of Gordon Memorial and the Usher board. He also loved watching sports! A few of his favorites were wrestling and football; especially the Washington Redskins and the Los Angeles Lakers! Most importantly he loved spending time with family and friends.
On Thursday June 1st, 2023, Richard D. departed this earthy life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Richard and Eva Hancock and Marjorie Wilson-Patterson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 60 years, Edna M. Hancock; daughter, Venita O. Hancock; sons, Richard Vincent Hancock (Laurie A. Hancock), Erich Carnell Hancock (Torrean Harris-Hancock).
His devoted sister and brother, Cynthia D. Norton (Johnell Norton) of Cranston Rhode Island and Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Hancock (Shenetha D. Hancock) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Mattie Lee Jones of Edgewater Maryland.
Twelve grandchildren, Shaquintia Johnson, Ayesha Johnson, Patricia Johnson, Jayla Hancock, Richard Jordan Hancock; devoted grandson Keonte Anderson, Keon Stewart, Eric Mullin, Ja’Darrien Taylor, Jaden Taylor, Reese Hazlett, Easton Hancock. Sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
His close family friend and the godfather of his children, Roy Rodgers of Nashville, TN; and a host of other family and friends.
