Peter LeVar Churchwell was born on February 16, 1978, to Peter D. Bumphus and Clara Churchwell in Hohenwald, Tennessee. From an early age, Peter’s gentle and endearing spirit was evident. He embodied kindness, compassion, and generosity, always showing a deep capacity for love and caring for others. Known for his love of family, selflessness, strength, infectious smile and laugh, desire to help without expecting anything in return, and impeccable sense of style, Peter never met a stranger. He was the life of the party, loved to travel, and lived life to the fullest. He was also an unapologetic mama's boy who loved and spoiled his mother. Throughout his 46 years, he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Peter was educated in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and studied building construction technology with a focus on carpentry at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Nashville. As a talented General Contractor, his work was even featured on HGTV. Peter accepted Christ at an early age at Trinity A.M.E. Church under Reverend Charles Townsend.
Peter was preceded in death by his son, Quencharious F. Edmondson; maternal grandparents, W.I. and Mattie Linam-Churchwell; paternal grandparents, William and Virginia Bumphus; his sister, Tamarsha Nicole Bumphus; aunts: Mary Sue Porter, Martha Richardson, Hattie Myrtle Churchwell, Alma Louise Leftwich, and Carolyn Faye Churchwell; and uncles: James Robert Churchwell, William Bumphus, Jr., Victor Bumphus, and Duren Bumphus.
