Pearl Louise (Rivers) League was born October 19, 1942 in Nashville, Tennessee to Eddie and Jettie Rivers. Pearl graduated from Howard High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1960. She returned home to Nashville, and later married Theodore (Teddy) League.
Pearl became a licensed practical nurse. Her dedication and resolute compassion for patients, did not go unnoticed by her colleagues and doctors. So true to form was Pearl that she attained one of the highest positions in nursing. Pearl was a well-known, highly respected surgical nurse at St Thomas Hospital. In furtherance of her leadership qualities, she joined Health Net where after several years, retired with a distinguished career.
Pearl embraced her faith. For over 40 years, she was a stalwart member of Mt Sinai Primitive Baptist Church. She shared her gift of music as an enthusiastic member of the church choir. Education was highly valued. She recognized the importance of young members of the church and was an advocate for the Washington Green Memorial Scholarship Fund. Her dedication to the church, lead to her being President of the Matrons.
Her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two older brothers; Jettie Rivers, Jr and Tommie Rivers.
Celebrating her life and left to cherish her memory, are her devoted husband, Teddy, who showed unwavering response to her needs, whether personal or emotional. Her comfort was his priority. Pearl’s son, Geoffery League (Shawana), whose attentiveness, support and total commitment to his mother was beyond exceptional. Pearl leaves two bonus children, Antwan League and Donna Faye League; three grandchildren – Khadeja C Taylor (Zach), Geoffery League, Jr and Diamond League; three sisters – Emma Scales, Ruthie Lawrence and Jean Rivers-Council (Harvey). She also leaves behind treasured nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, friends, in-laws and, church members.
