Melvin Dexter Patton was given the gift of life on December 18, 1947, to the late Martha J. Patton and Robert Pratt. He was raised in the Lake Providence Community. Graduated from Haynes High School (Last Haynes Highschool graduating class) in 1965. After High School, he enlisted in the Navy and had top secret security clearance. After his military service, he pursued higher education at TSU and Nashville State Community College; and was employed at Dupont, Consolidated Freight, and Nashville Cares.
Melvin transitioned into eternity on Thursday, June 8, 2023. His spirit and influence will live on through those who knew and loved him.
He was a lifelong member of the Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend Samuel H. Simpson and Reverend H. Bruce Maxwell. He was an active member of Lake Providence’s Male Choir until his health began to decline. He was a smart and diligent working man who was a world traveler, and an appreciator of art and antiquities. He was an amazing man, often volunteering to aid and assist when he knew of a need. He will be missed on this Earth.
Melvin was preceded in death by parents, Martha Patton and Robert Pratt; Robert “Peter” Pratt (half-brother); Dovie & Herman Hendrix, May Frances Hill & Reverend Edward Hill (Aunts and Uncles);
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory devoted cousins, Brenda Hendrix, Vivian (Raymond) Brooks, Barbara Davis, Stephanie Brooks, Keinon Brooks, Kendria Battle-Pendergrass, Tiffany Battle-Marks; Cora Patton, Half Brother Johnny Pratt(and family) a host more cousins.; Devoted Friends, Delores Williams, Tom & Donna Savley; Dr. Donald & Mami Patterson; Joyce Jameson, Aubrey & Frances Pratt; Bruce Maxwell; and his VA Medical Family which saw him weekly for the last 16 years.
