Laura Elizabeth King affectionately known as Nana was born on February 21, 1938, to Carrie and Fred Hutton. Laura (Nana) graduated from Pearl High School and later found her career in the printing industry where she worked as a Graphic Arts Communicator until she retired.
Laura (Nana) was blessed with many talents she was an amazing seamstress; she made her share of prom and wedding dresses and you could rest assured that on Easter her children would look like they stepped off a page of the vogue catalog. Family gatherings was always anticipated because Laura was an awesome cook. Laura had a passion for gardening and had a incredible green thumb. She could be found in the yard where she would be working in her garden of flowers, and vegetables; this is where she found daily peace and joy.
Laura had big faith she would speak of how God would take care of any and all things. Laura accepted Christ at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Nashville TN, and when she lived in Chicago Il, she was a member of Lilydale First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and worked on the kitchen ministry.
There was no mistaking the love that emerged from Laura (Nana) for her family. She was a pillar of love, wisdom, resourcefulness, and resilience. The family has often marveled at her ability to bounce back from adversity. Laura (Nana)was relieved of her matriarchal duties on January 27, 2023.
Laure (Nana) was proceeded in death by her mother and father Carrie and Fred Hutton, her brother Walker Lee Hutton affectionally known as Sonny (Dorothy) her husband, Claude L. King, her two eldest sons Eric Lynn Carter & Carl Steven Carter and her beloved daughter Millicent Juanita Myers.
Laura (Nana) leaves to cherish the memories of her undying love: Beverly Walker (Rev. Riley Walker), Charles Tyrone Carter, Christopher Lamont King (Paris), Angela Camille King, Claudia Rose Marie Powell (Rev. Stevie Powell), Laura Earline Robinson (Travis), Stephanie Naomi Griffin (Joseph), Fred Lehman King (Marion). Laura has 48 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren children. Of the grandchildren Laura (Nana) was blessed to raise Carrie Elizabeth Carter, Terrie Leigh Carter who affectionally called her momma. “They don’t make them like her anymore because she was a grand-Mom she was a vital part of raising Danielle Camille Stuart (Sidney), Tracie Richardson, Tereasa Richardson, Toya King, and Michael,and she leaves a host of other family and friends.
