She worked as a records clerk at Meharry medical College, then became a secretary for the attorney of history R.B.J. Campbell, Jr. and then became one of the first African American Secretaries at the United Methodist Board of Education. She was born into the congregation of Seay Chapel, the church that later became Seay-Hubbard United Methodist Church, where her parents were members and where she remained a member for life. She was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service which later became the United Methodist Women (UMW) and she became the first president of the Seay-Hubbard unit. At one time, she held the office of secretary of the Tennessee Conference UMW. She started a Girl Scout Troop for high school aged girls in South Nashville because one of the girls in the church repeatedly said she wished there was such a troop. It was only one of two senior high school Girl Scout troops for African American girls in the city at the time. Julia spent her last years at the Mount Juliet Health Care Center in Mount Juliet, TN. She brighten their days with her quick wit and feistiness and the family is so grateful for the care and attention she received in every aspect of her care while there. During her last days, the entire staff did everything they could to anticipate and accommodate her and the family's every possible need. We are truly grateful for the love they showed.
