On the evening of January 9, 2024 Joyce Ann Childress entered into rest with the Heavenly Father. She was born on July 28, 1956 to Louis Brooks and Elizabeth T. Thornton in Nashville TN. Joyce was a jovial child and raised by her mother, Elizabeth and stepfather Robert L. Endsley, all preceded her in death.
She loved all kind of music, although Jazz was her favorite and reflected in her name "Jazzy" as she was called on her job, at Metro Water Dept.
Joyce was a graduate of North High School, class of 1975. She was also a proud TSU Graduate and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of Home Economics/ Agricultural. She was a very talented seamstress and specializes in alterations as the soul business owner of Joyywares and TwinPreaches.. Joyce had several home-based business during
her lifetime. Her last business venture was with Affordable Elegance Event Planners, that she shared with a team of four other ladies. She had extremely high work ethics and was the treasurer and tax accountant for the business.
Joyce's most passionate possession was her daughter, Shellie LaShaun born to Joyce Ann and Gregory Childress, who passed away in 2023. Joyce loved and lived for her daughter and was a great mother, aunt, sister and friend.
Joyce was raised in the church at Schrader Lane where she believed and accepted the Christian biblical principals taught in Bible study on Wednesday & Sunday; eventually being baptized by Bro David Jones. She found her Christian passion in the kitchen. Joyce was so proud of the training she receiving the Chef hat from Commercial
Foods classes, sponsored by Schrader's Kitchen Ministry. Joyce was a faithful member of the Kitchen Committee and really got excited about the Thanksgiving Community Dinner for home delivery; something that happened each year.
Joyce loved to sing and was blessed with a soothing, melodic, soprano acappella voice. She was a dedicated songstress in the youth and adult choruses at Schrader Lane COC. Joyce also sang in the Belleview Community Chorus established by the Belleview Church of Christ. Joyce was often designated as one of the soloists. She was well known for her solo renditions of the Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria for which she was invited to sing at weddings and special events, on many occasions
Joyce is survived by a loving and devoted daughter Shellie LaShaun Childress, Sisters: Hiwatha Terry- Greene, Janice (George Jr) Harvell, Venice Endsley, Victoria (Jesse Jr) Holden, Brothers: Elmer Eugene (Fatima) Terry, Ronald Endsley, Laval Endsley, Victor (Reece) Endsley, Brother-cousins: Frank and Therron Farrell. Neices: Tracey Brown, Lea (Richard) Jones, Stephanie Childress, Shatika Endsley, Chanel Keeble, LaTrece Terry, Jasmine Wells, Autumn Endsley, Colina(James)Poullard and Tara Soileau Nephews: Franklin (Renee)Greene Jr, Darrien Eugene (Michele) Greene, Eugene (Theresa)Terry, Jr., George (April) Harvell 3rd, Dondre Endsley and Nicholas Wells, Aunt: Maizel Endsley, Long Devoted friends Brenda Allison, Laura Ferguson, Chicquita Martin and Elizabeth Hurd along with a host of other relatives and friends.
