Born on July 13, 1964, to the loving union of James and Dorothy Bryant, John L. Bryant lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication. Affectionately known as "Jay" by those closest to him. John grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, where he attended Metro Public Schools and went on to graduate from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology.
Jay's career was marked by hard work and commitment. After retiring from Dean Foods (Purity), he continued to pour his passion into his work as a devoted employee at Kroger.
The youngest of 12 siblings, Jay, brought joy and warmth to an ever-growing family of nieces and nephews. He had a deep love for football, whether playing during his high school and college days, cheering passionately for the Titans, or proudly watching his nephews and nieces excel in their own sports endeavors. Jay cherished family gatherings, celebrated moments on the family land, and found peace in farming—a testament to his connection to his roots.
John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Dorothy Bryant; brothers, William "Widdy" Bryant and James "Jimmy" Bryant; and sisters, Sheila Bryant Phillips, Nina Bryant Martin, and Dorothy Bryant Carr.
He leaves to carry forward his legacy and memories: his devoted siblings, LaVonne Allison, Harold (Wanda) Bryant, Aaron (Sabrina) Bryant, Larry (Cheryl) Bryant, Katherine Bryant Drennon, and Rosina Bryant. His aunt Elizabeth Bryant. He is also survived by his special friend Kristina Powell, his loving daughter Kayla Russell, devoted cousins, Charles “Junior” Carr, Aaron “Darryl” Bryant, Freddie Lee Carr and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Jay’s love, humor, and indomitable spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him.
