Hester Louise Rogers Gatewood was born April 21, 1941 in Slayton, Mississippi to the union Hudey Rogers and Lillie Loise Weatherly Rogers. She departed this life peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville, Tennessee.

She was educated in the in Mississippi and attended Sandflat High School. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was united with Hudsonville C.M.E. Church.
Hester married the love of her life Emerson Gatewood “Sonny” in 1958. He preceded her in death.
She was employed as a cook for many years with Wendell Smith Restaurant.
In her spare time she enjoyed playing Word Find, Yard sells, Cooking and taking care of her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Hudie and Lillie Rogers, sister, Alma Delbert, brothers, Joe Rogers, Odell Rogers and Rudell Rogers
She leaves to cherish her memories her eight children, Gloria Gatewood, Lillian Gatewood, Bonnie Sue Gatewood Smith(Earl), Almond Goy Gatewood Iheme (Richard), Essie Karen Walker (Derek) Emerson Doug Gatewood, Timothy Gatewood (Contina), Anthony Gatewood (Mary) four sisters, Thelma Rogers, Fannie Jones, Lucile Harris (Earnest), brothers,, Edward Rogers, and Isaiah Rogers (Elaine), a brother-in-law, Willie Delbert, great-grandchildren a host of other relatives and friends. Viewing Friday, November 19, 2021, 11-3:00p.m. at funeral home. Visitation Saturday, November 20, 2021, 11-12 with funeral to follow at Community Baptist Church 3838 Dickerson Rd. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery North
