Helen Beatrice Johnson- Harris Nashville, TN Helen Beatrice Johnson Harris, the youngest daughter of Rev. B.L. Johnson and Emma Wigfall Johnson, was born on April 6, 1926. She departed earth on February 7, 2014. She joined in holy matrimony to Dr. Roland A. Harris, Jr. on October 12, 1956. While they had only a four month courtship, they were married for 57 years. Helen was native of Augusta, GA. She was a graduate of Paine College and received a Master of Arts degree from New York University. She was an educator while traveling with her husband who served in various U.S. Army military assignments for twenty years. As an educator, Helen taught in the public school system for thirty six years. During her career, she received numerous awards including 'Teacher of the Year'. She had teaching assignments at Silas X. Floyd and Charles T. Walker Elementary Schools in Augusta, GA, Georgia Brown School in the Paso Robles Union School District in California, and Forest Sherman Elementary School in Naples, Italy. In 1986, she concluded her teaching career at Lonsdale Elementary School in Knoxville, TN where she retired. An active church member, she served as a deaconess while participating in various ministries at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. Upon relocating to Murfreesboro, TN, she later became a member of Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, TN, where she attended until her health prohibited her from doing so. Helen enjoyed life and was an avid reader. She enjoyed teaching and loved her two sons, Roland III and B. Christopher, deeply. She was a former member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., The Links, Inc., and an 'Archousa' of the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. Helen leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted husband, Roland Jr.; two sons, Roland III, Stone Mountain, GA, B. Christopher (Darlene), Murfreesboro, TN; three grandchildren, Ronee' (Jose) Rosa, Hinesville, GA, Christopher (Sadie) Harris, Bowling Green, OH, Danielle Harris, Murfreesboro, TN; two great-grandchildren, Makhi Harris and Jose Rosa, Jr. of Hinesville, GA; two godchildren, Harrison Hamp, Jacksonville, FL, Joyce Thomas, Atlanta, GA, and a host of relatives and friends. Viewing will be Thursday, 12-6 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation Friday, 10-11 a.m., with funeral to follow at Lake Providence Baptist Church, 5891 Nolensville Rd., Pastor H.
