Glenda Ann Matthews-Beene

Born at Hubbard Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee to parents Martha Matthews & Charles Gilcrease (both deceased)

Glenda was raised in care of Reuben Sr. and Vannorris Lawrence and Family in North and East Nashville at the age of 7 yrs old with her sister Brenda until she was 18 years old. As a child growing up Glenda and her family were members of Corinthian Baptist Church in her later years, she attended WestWood Baptist church.

Glenda received her education from Ford Greene Elementary School, Moses Mckissack, Wharton Middle School, East High School. At the start of her senior year, she went on to live with her sister Thelma where she attended McGavock High School and graduated. After graduating high school Glenda had her first child (Chris) at the age of 19. Her second child (Kristen) at 24 and third child (Jonathan) at 26.

In 1989 at the age of 28 Glenda married the love of her life George Beene. They were married for 32 years before she became widowed. They bought their first home in Antioch, Tennessee, where they shared many memories. George worked for Nissan and UPS, Glenda worked for Dell Computers, K-Mart, Kohl's and a stay-at-home mother. George was a phenomenal husband, best friend, provider, travel partner, stepfather and grandfather. before he passed in August 2021.

They loved to travel her favorite places to visit were Virginia Beach to spend time with her brother Terry and family, Vegas, Evansville, Metropolis, and Tupelo Mississippi. She was proud of her sister Brenda and would visit the states she was stationed at (in the Air Force.) Glenda loved her family and friends. She was known for baking chess pies, cakes and cooking soul food for them. Glenda (George) attended many holiday celebrations at the Beene Family Home and at her Aunt Charlene (Eddye) Rhea, at her brother Robert (Valerie), cousins Rhea and Gennie homes throughout the years. One of their faithful traditions were tailgating for TSU homecoming with George's Mason Lodge Phoenix 715.

 She was very thankful for her family/ friends and showed her appreciation all the time by giving sentimental and monetary gifts. She loved to shop and have girl time with her closest sisters/ friends Sharon, Patricia S., Veleria, Brenda S., Andrea, Cheryl, Myra and Wendy and many more.

 In addition to her parents, Glenda was also preceded in death by her husband, George Beene in August of 2021, father and mother-in-law, Bobby and Martha Beene, brothers in law, Bobby Jr, Donnie, Mark, and Darrell Beene.

 Glenda leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her children, Christopher Hendrix, Kristen Matthews, Jonathan Matthews, Stepdaughter, Shalithea McKnight, grandchildren/ Tri'Miracle Hendrix, Travon Hendrix, William Edmondson, Antoinne Smith jr., Tryannah Hendrix and great grandchild, Kehlani Hendrix. Siblings Thelma Overton (Mike), Robert Matthews (Valerie), Terry Matthews Sr. (Hannah), Brenda Matthews-Armstrong (James), Darryl Matthews, Leonard Matthews

Glenda's kind loving spirit will be missed by her many nieces (Erica Olgesby, Ebony Matthews, Kassinda Matthews, Lana Matthews, Kennedy Armstrong, Markia Beene), nephews (Robert Matthews Jr, Demond Matthews, Shannon Matthews, Brannon Matthews, Terry Matthews, Cortez Law), great nieces and nephews, cousins, Jason Rhea, Rhea Fuqua, Gennie Campbell and Patrice Perkins.
