George Travis Leatherwood was born July 2, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee the first bundle of joy to the union of George and Josephine Berry Leatherwood. George answered his call and went to glory to be his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 9, 2024.
George accepted Christ in his life at an early age and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Nashville Tennessee.
George attended Davidson Schools and graduated from Haynes High School in 1957 where he was Drum Major of the Marching Band and played trumpet. He went on to attend Tennessee State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. He was a proud brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
He was intelligent, caring, loving and supportive of his family and friends, he had a great sense of humor and a very generous heart. He spoke every day by phone with his lifelong friends Abe and Prince. He loved to read and always liked nice clothes and shoes and was always impeccably dressed.
George taught in the Chicago Illinois School System 11 years. In 1973 he relocated to Los Angles California where he taught at UCLA for a short time. He was a Business Account Executive with AT&T and retired in 2006.
His siblings who were his peace and comfort they will cherish his memories, sisters Patricia Jenkins, Jennifer (Gerald) Johnson, Sheila Snorten (Deceased) Rhonda Williams (Deceased) and Devoted sister & Caregiver Stephanie Nance, brothers Robert (Deceased), Donald, Glenn (Deceased) and Kenneth (Winifred) Leatherwood. Numerous Cousins, Nephews, Nieces and friends. Devoted Friends Prentice Leonard, Abe Gainor of Chicago and Prince Poe of Orange County California.
