George Lee Baugh was born October 20, 1956 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Robert Lee Baugh and Jessie Baugh. He departed this life on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 after battling recurring health issues.
George was educated in Metro Nashville Public Schools and graduated from Cohn High School. He went on to attend Martin College and later received his bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College.
For many years George worked in the building products industry and was also employed in areas of retail and security. His greatest job, however, was teaching and preaching the Bible. For over eight years, he was one of the pulpit ministers of the 2nd Street Church of Christ (formerly Charlotte Street) in Dixon, TN. Throughout the years, he was also an active member of Churches of Christ at 40th Ave, Eastside, Schrader Lane, and Richland Creek.
George was a sports enthusiast and was known to proudly cheer for the Vanderbilt Commodores. In his earlier years he was an outstanding basketball player. When not on the court, he could be found on the sidelines coaching both youth and adult teams.
On October 17, 1987, George was united in marriage with the former Frances Smartt. Although their 36-year union encountered several years of separation, George left many wonderful memories for Frances and those whose lives they positively impacted as a couple.
Such wonderful memories will also be shared by his devoted family: mother, Jessie Baugh; sisters, Deborah Whitman and Vanail (Maurice) Glimps; brothers, Allen Whitman and especially devoted brother, Michael(Tammy) Baugh; niece, Diondria Whitman Sparks, nephew, Gabriel (Erin) Glimps; great nieces, Megan and Madison Sparks; great nephew, Carter Glimps; mother-in-law, Susanna Smartt; childhood friend, Fred Kennedy and a host of other dear relatives and friends.
