Eunice Junior Hyde, known as "E.J. and Eugene," was born November 4, 1939, to the late Joe and Emma Jean Chatman Hyde in Springfield, Tennessee. He entered into peaceful rest on April 2, 2024, at the age of 84. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a spiritual person.
E.J. attended public schools in Robertson County and attended Tennessee State University. He entered into the United States Army where he completed college level courses with honors at the U.S. Armed Forces Institute.
On March 22, 1968, he was joined in holy matrimony to Reta Louise Hyde and to this union two twin children were born, son, Anthony Hyde and daughter, Antoinette Hyde-Crutcher.
He was employed with and retired from the Powell Construction Company in Nashville, TN., where he was one of the first African-American foreman in Nashville and assisted in building most of the high architectural structures, including the AT&T Building, Colloquially known as the Batman Building in downtown Nashville. He was always on time and never late to work and he took pride in always receiving good evaluations on whatever job he was assigned to work. He also assisted in building Hunters Lane High School where his two grandsons, Dominique and Donovan attended and earned their high school degrees.
E.J. owned and managed rental properties throughout Nashville, Tn., and gave many people a place to live in their time of need. He loved speaking to the youth about their goals and encouraged them to always have a plan for their future.
He loved listening to all kinds of music and playing different instruments by ear, enjoyed reading, building things with his hands, and always cherished family gathers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Reta Louise Hyde, and siblings, Henry Hyde, Joe Larry Hyde, Jonathan Hyde, Rosa Lee Hyde Austin, and Robert Hyde.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his two loving twin children, son, Anthony Hyde and devoted daughter, Antoinette (Leon) Hyde-Crutcher, three grandchildren, Tiesha Brooks, Dominique Hyde and Donovan Hyde, one step grandson, Keane Jay Crutcher, three great grandchildren, Kendall Brooks, Kenley Jenkins and Ja'Vayah Curry, sister, Marilyn Hyde, brother, Steverson (Willie May) Hyde as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
