Elzie Whitworth, Jr.

April 10, 1947 — September 10, 2024

Mr. Elzie Lee Whitworth, Jr. was born April 10, 1947, in Nashville, Tennessee. Elzie accepted his call and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at his residence in Nashville, Tennessee.

Elzie joined Roger Heights Baptist Church on August 6, 2006, and was later baptized under the pastorate of Rev. Charles R. Williams, Jr. He loved his church and worked diligently in the vineyard until his health failed him. He sang in the Male Chorus and served as an Usher greeting everyone with a loving smile. All who knew him instantly were attracted to his wit and charm and was called a friend. He was educated in the Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Elzie was employed by Wayne Feed and Ready-Mix Concrete for over 35 years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing pool, watching westerns and old shows on television. He also enjoyed music and singing but most of all spending time with his family and attending his home church Roger Heights brought a smile to his face.

Elzie was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Mary Sanford and daughter, Vanessa Ganaway.

He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Telesa “Lee Lee” (Christopher) Young, Tracey (Bobby Ray) Childress, son, James Newsom, Sr., 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sisters, Mary Diane (Pedro) Pardo, Sandra “Sandy” Baines, Valerie “Val” Gooch, Wanda Jordan, Constance “Connie” (Jerome) Holt, Linda Roland, brothers, Lemuel “Lem” Whitworth, Nasser Jerome “Jay” (Lorine Webb) Sanford, Elijah “Bubba” (Portia) Sanford, III, 20 nieces and nephews, devoted nieces, Sharonda Jordan Green and Amanda Jordan Cane, 2 aunts, a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, Wayne Mooney and Jerry Cunningham.
