Effie Mai Dunn-Wilkerson

February 18, 1929 — July 18, 2024

Effie Mai Dunn Wilkerson was born on February 18, 1929, in Springfield, TN, Robertson County, to the union of Ernest and Idella Dunn. After a brief illness, Effie departed this life on July 18, 2024.

Mai, as she was affectionately known, graduated from the historic Bransford High School in Springfield, TN. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Little Star Calvary Church and later became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Clarksville, TN.

Mai moved to Clarksville, TN in 1953, where she spent the rest of her life. She became a self- employed cosmetologist after graduating from beauty school. She practiced her profession faithfully on into the later years of her life. At times, she held employment outside the home, but enjoyed her role as a homemaker for many years. She especially took pleasure in gardening and providing for her beloved family, where she was a mother figure to many. In the recent weeks, as her health deteriorated, she remained in good spirits. She continued to encourage her family and friends.

In 1954, Mai and Norman Wilkerson were united on holy matrimony. They enjoyed a blissful marriage for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her father and mother, Ernest and 'della Dunn, sisters, Corlean Morrow, Eva N. Morrow, Maudie Johnson, and Elizabeth Andrews, brother Ernest Dunn, Jr., and devoted niece Ruby M. Hardy.

To cherish her memory, she leaves behind daughter Shirlyn W. Johnson, granddaughter, Iris N. Johnson, great-grandson, Major Maison Marks, devoted niece, Eva M. Brooks, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Ms. Effie Wilkerson's name.
