Our beloved Deacon Harry Laster took his rest in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday
morning, June 28, 2023. He lived a rich and full life as a husband, father, friend
and most importantly, a devoted servant of God. He was born in Cowan,
Tennessee and later moved to Nashville to complete his schooling at Pearl High
School. He went on to attend Tennessee A&I State University (now Tennessee
State University) as an aeronautical engineering student. While a college student,
he participated in the Nashville sit-ins during the Civil Rights Movement. He met a
beautiful woman, Evelyn Marie Hayes, while working as a cook at Vanderbilt
Hospital, and made her his wife on May 18, 1964. They shared a life-long journey
together as friends and partners through all the joys and challenges of life for 59
beautiful years. Deacon Laster was a loving father to his children Kenny, Sonya,
and Lori.
Harry worked at Avco Aerostructures (now known as Triumph Aerostructures) as
an aircraft technician building airplane wings for over 30 years. Deacon Laster was blessed with so many talents and gifts. He was a devoted member of Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, choir member,
deacon, and trustee. All who knew him learned that he was not just someone
who held titles, but he would roll up his sleeves and work, minister the good news of Jesus, and provide words of encouragement to anyone who crossed his path. He was a prayer warrior and visited the sick. Even when Deacon Laster had to relinquish his roles at the church, he took exceptional care of his family until his illness.
Deacon Harry Laster leaves behind his wife, Evelyn Laster, sisters, Nellie Bodenhamer and Molly Ann Bond, brothers Samuel Frank Laster and Jerry Laster, children Kenneth Hayes, Sonya Laster, Lori (Dennis) Allen, grandchildren, Nicole (Kentrell) Davis, Jasmine (Chris) Dobbins, James "JD" Snow, Harrison Snow, Mathew Allen, and Brandon Allen, great-grandchildren Christopher Smith,
Camryn and Layla Dobbins, and Harlem Snow and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
