Mr. Leon McGhee was called home to our Lord peacefully on August 2, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Leon was born to the late Mary and George McGhee on June 5, 1950, in Matthew, Alabama. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Stewart, and he spent 46 loving years with her. He accepted Christ at an early age in Alabama. After moving to Saginaw, Michigan he united with New Life Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Rufus Bradley Sr. Where he served on many auxiliaries. He moved to Murfreesboro in 2014, where he united with First Baptist Church under the leadership Pastor James McCarroll.
Mr. Leon worked for General Motors for 25 years. After retiring Leon volunteered at Saginaw High School for many years. He enjoyed grilling, sports, church, and spending time with family and friends. His all-time favorite team was Roll Tide and Saginaw High Trojans. Once Leon learned how to use his phone. He called everyone in his phone contact list, and he never missed a Birthday. His favorite TV shows were FBI and Law and Order SVU. His favorite saying was “That will never happen”.
He leaves to cherish his memories of his beautiful wife, Barbara McGhee who stood by his side. He leaves one, son Demus (Taja)Stewart, six daughters Tracy Gadson of Union City, GA., Alicia Mosley Charleston, SC., Melody Monday Fitzpatrick, AL., Kitina Pritchett Alabaster, AL., Shonda Myles Murfreesboro, TN., His pride and joy his baby girl Shareika Stewart. One sister, Bertha Minniefield of Bloomfield, CT., 29 grands and 44 great grands kids. two God-daughters TaTasha Thomas, Caretta Stewart. Four sisters-in-law, Mary Bennett Shreveport LA., Carolyn (Cornell) Wicker, Willie-Mae McGhee and Bernadette McGhee of Montgomery, AL., two brothers-in-law, Glen Stewart, C.W (Eunice)Harris of Saginaw Michigan. A host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends including close Family McGhee, Stewart, Blakely, Pritchett, Suttons, Rogers, close friends Reginald McGee, Lonnie Woods, Henry Doshie, Deacon Roach, Deacon York, George Harris, and Gaines family to many other names to mention they all was loved by him.
Preceded in death by nine siblings Mamie Burton, Bessie Calhoun, Mary McGhee, Georgia Walker, Carrie Reynolds, Luella Milling, Alfoncia, George, James McGhee, Mother-in-Law, Tilda Stewart, Father-in-law, Jim Stewart, Brother-in-law Jim Stewart Jr., Tony Bennett and sister-in-law Shirley Bryant.
