It is with joyful hearts that we celebrate the life of Courtney Joseph Jones, Jr., who was born on November 25, 1944, in Opelousas, Louisiana, and transitioned to his eternal home on March 15, 2025. Courtney was a beacon of love, laughter, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born to Mary L. Lazard-Jones and Courtney Joseph Jones, Sr., he was the cherished brother of two brothers and nine sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Samuel W. Jones, Clemons Jones, Louann White, AnnaBell White, Rosella Tyler, Myrtle Daniel, Georgia White,, Roselin Small, Ermitha Jones, Rose Cretain, and is survived by his sister, Wilda Jones, who continues to honor his memory.
Courtney's education at J.H. High School in Opelousas laid the foundation for a life filled with camaraderie and joy. He found true happiness in his marriage to Shirley B. Watts-Jones, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership. Shirley was his tireless confidant, caregiver and partner, and prayer warrior, who cared for him for 57 years completely until his last breath. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Tony Curts Watts (Carol, deceased), Darryl Eugene Watts (Laneishia Matthews), Yolanda Rochelle Jones-Moye (Derrick), and Corey Joseph Jones (Mia). He was not only a devoted father but also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, surrounded by a loving family that includes many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who adored him.
Courtney dedicated his professional life to Warren Brothers, where his strong work ethic and cheerful demeanor made a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. Outside of work, he found joy in fishing, playing cards and dice, and spending quality time with family and friends. His laughter was infectious, and his spirit brought joy to every gathering.
As we gather to honor his memory, let us celebrate a life well-lived—a life that exemplified love, community, and happiness. Courtney will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
