Carolyn Diane Armstrong Lewis is a testament to her enduring spirit and the profound impact she had on those around her. Born into the loving arms of Charlie and Elease Armstrong in Nashville, Tennessee, Carolyn's journey began on October 16, 1950. Her life was a tapestry woven with the roles of sister, daughter, mother, grandmother, and the cherished "Aunt Carolyn," each thread representing the love and memories she shared with her family. Despite the loss of her parents and siblings, her faith remained a cornerstone, guiding her from an early age to embrace Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Carolyn's educational pursuits led her from the Metropolitan Davidson County School System and the halls of Pearl High School to the esteemed Saint Thomas Hospital’s School of Licensed Practical Nursing, where she embarked on a compassionate career as an LPN. Her heart found its greatest joy in motherhood with the birth of her son, Paul CJ Armstrong, and later, in the nurturing role of guardian to her nephew, Christopher J Armstrong, Jr., and as a Godmother to Yvette Dawson Claybrooks.
Her professional life was marked by a dedication to service, beginning in 1978 with the American Red Cross. There, Carolyn played a vital role in their noble mission to alleviate human suffering, harnessing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Her commitment to this cause spanned over three decades, culminating in her leadership as the supervisor of a phlebotomy team in Middle Tennessee, a position she held until her retirement in 2014.
Beyond her professional and familial commitments, Carolyn found solace and strength in her faith. Her hobbies were an extension of her spiritual life, including reading the Bible, delving into the teachings of God, and actively participating in the community of Sylvan Street Baptist Church. Her devotion to her faith, family and church was unwavering, even as her health began to decline.
The sweet and nurturing legacy Carolyn leaves behind is rich with the echoes of her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her generous spirit. Her life's story continues to inspire and resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know her, a beacon of hope and love that will shine on in the hearts of her family and community. Her journey, marked by both joy and adversity, stands as a powerful reminder of the enduring strength of the human spirit and the profound impact one life can have on many.
As we remember Carolyn “Mama” and “Aunt Carolyn”, we celebrate a life rich in love, faith, and service. Her legacy is not just in the memories she leaves behind, but in the lives she has touched, the comfort she has provided, and the love she has shared. Carolyn Diane Armstrong Lewis, a sister, daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, will forever be remembered as a beacon of light and love in our hearts. May this tribute serve as a reminder of the beauty and grace she brought into this world. Her spirit, like her impact, will continue to resonate for generations to come.
Carolyn will forever linger in the hearts and thoughts of her family & friends.
