Bryant Bashaw was the second born child to Jonah and Arah Bashaw on December
23, 1925 in the rural community of Mount Juliet, Tn. of Wilson County. Sadly, he
transitioned peacefully at his residence on December 9, 2023. He would fondly
tell people that "he was gonna try to make it to 100," but His Savior knew his time.
At an early age, Bryant united with the community church of Corona Missionary
Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board under the pastoral ship of his
late Uncle Gilbert W. Bryant, and attended the Wilson County School
System. Later in life, he united with Jackson Street Church of Christ where he
attended until health conditions prevented regular attendance.
Bryant was married to the late Lucille W. Bashaw and from this union produced
three children, Bryant Jr, Pamela, and Ashonda.
His lifetime occupation was brick masonry. He mastered his trade in Indianapolis,
Indiana and Detroit, Michigan and continued in Nashville. He helped construct the
brick wall of Tennessee State University's Home Economics building. He would
often construct mailboxes, chimneys, walls, and even barbecue grills.
His favorite pastime was twofold, baseball and pool. At early age, he and relatives
competed in baseball games with local teams and was touted as a talented
player. As he watched professional games on television, his family would see him
stand and remove his hat for the singing of the Star Spangle Banner. His other
hobby was playing pool. He was skilled at shooting pool, even later in life, winning
several trophies and awards.
Bryant is preceded in death by wife, Lucille W. Bashaw, parents, Jonah and Arah
Bashaw, and siblings, Ben Bashaw and Sylvester Bashaw Robertson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, supportive and caring children, Bryant Jr.,
Pamela (Willie) Bryson, and Ashonda, loving grandchildren, Cynecia (Shon) Austin,
Terrance Bass, Tiffany Jenkins, Ashleigh Bass, Tierney Jenkins, Richard (Pres)
Jenkins, loving great-grandchildren, Bransen Jenkins and Caidon Cooper, caring
