Berry Sullivan Mason, Jr.

November 16, 1941 — February 13, 2022

Berry (Sonny) Sullivan Mason, Jr. was born to Faithy Eliza Mason Lazenby and Berry Sullivan Mason, Sr.

Faithy later married his stepfather William (Bill) Lazenby, grandparents, Australia Ruffin and Eliza Beasley, all preceded him in death.

Sonny excepted Christ in a little church in Brooklyn, New York with his grandmother.

He was educated in New York City Public Schools, and he attended Queens College and other colleges for training programs.

Employment History: He worked for District 3 in New York for many years as well as Kadimah Kitting Mills, Producer for American Music Company, Director of Public Relations for L.S.C. Associates.

Professional Affiliations: City Wide Coalition on Substance Abuse, Bushwick CETA Title VI Task Force,

C. P.D. Committee on Youth, Sub-Regional Mental Health Children’s Committee, Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Services for Williamsburg-Bushwick.

Sonny enjoyed singing, music, reading, sports and working. His favorite group and song were the Dixie Hummingbirds “Come Over Here.”

Berry (Sonny) is survived by his three daughters Michelle Mason, Brooklyn, NY, Robin Greenhow, Dover, DE, and Charmaine Mason, Brooklyn, NY, one granddaughter and one grandson, one brother James Australia Mason, Richmond, VA, Aunt Willieann Randolph Ruffin, Port St. Lucie, FL, Cousin Tamesha Edmondson Burke (Alfonso) and family,  Newburgh, NY, close friends, Jennifer (Chris) Hodges, Joel Hodges, Elizabeth Hodges and Christopher Hodges, Nashville, TN, Kristi Hinsley & Jessica Taylor a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
