Alexine Hamby Nashville - was born in Nashville, TN, on May 17, 1924, the youngest of three children born to Alex and Hattie Sue Atkins. Her earthly life ended on January 19, 2020. She was educated in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School system. She went on to earn Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Education Specialist degrees from Fisk, Tennessee State, and Vanderbilt/Peabody universities, respectively. She married Authur Hamby in 1945 and to this union four children were born. Mrs. Hamby was an educator for 32 years in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a teacher, principal, and director of Title I programs. After retirement, she organized and directed Samaritan Ministries of The Temple Church and Project S.E.E. (Support, Education and Empowerment), an afterschool tutorial and enrichment program, to address the needs of homeless, elderly and underserved people, and provide educational and nutritional support to at-risk children in the Nashville community. Mrs. Hamby was a charter member of The Temple Church in Nashville, where she was a faithful member until her death. Mrs. Hamby is survived by her three daughters: Faye Williams, Donna (Richard) Priester and Lisa Hamby; her stepson, Coleman A. (Tanya) Beard; grandchildren: Joye Williams, Kelli (James) Henderson, Evan (Erica) Turner, Authur Atu, Allie Atu, Antonio Solomon, Adrian Beard, Airrion (Jewel) Beard, Aundrea Johnson and Ambra (Juan) Corder; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Lean Hamby; one nephew and five nieces. Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12 p.m. at The Temple Church, 3810 Kings Lane, Nashville, TN. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 1428 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville, TN. Terrell Broady Funeral Home. Send flowers to the service of Alexine Hamby
